The Regimental Association tours the Royal Hospital Chelsea

On Saturday 18th January 2025 members and guests of the association toured the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Our tour was hosted by Chelsea Pensioner IP Bert Weastell, and commenced at 10:00hrs

Starting in the stables area adjecent to the Chelsea gate, our tour visited the berth heritage rooms (depicting life in the 1800s), the south terrace complete with Waterloo cannons, the statue of Charles II (founder), the Main Dining Hall, the Chapel, and the Light Horse court.

Bert (pictured on the right) was very informative describing in detail the history of the Royal Hospital (built by Sir Christopher Wren), life as a Chelsea Pensioner, the personalities involved with the Royal Hospital through the years, and the annual events such at the Chelsea Flower Show and Founders Day.

The tour lasted for two hours and was well worth the visit. As is tradition, the party then retired to a local establishment for food and drink.

Keep an eye on our events page for future association events you may wish to participate in.
