Lodge Hill replacement formally opens
15th March 2013
The new DEMSS (South) Search and EOD training facility has been formally opened at St Georges Barracks, Bicester, by General Sir Peter Wall.
Built under a public private finance initiative, the new £100 million facility replaces the ex Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal School (DEODS) and the National Search Center (NSC) at Lodge Hill, Medway.
Members of the association were briefed on the new facility as part of a farewell Lodge Hill visit with the REA BD branch last year by Lt Col Chris Henson.
It is truely state of the art and a world leading training facility. It includes various simulators, specialist search tracks and routes, purpose built underground caves and an underwater training facility.
It also boasts a massive sneaky beaky James Bond set style training facility to keep what goes on under wraps from prying intelligence satellites.
Conceived from the outset as a world leading training establishment it has taken eight years to devise, plan and construct. A lot of thought and imagination has gone into the facility.
Keep an eye out on future events for the opportunity for members to visit the facility in person.
