Major General Aidan Smyth QVRM TD DL

Died 2nd January 2025

Aidan was a member of 101 Engineer Regiment, he began his regimental service as a Troop Commander, and became the regiments Commanding Officer. He was also the Honorary President of the Regimental Association up until his death.

On promotion to Colonel he became a Colonel Commandant of the Royal Engineers.

Following further promotion to Brigadier he adopted the post as head of Army Recruitment

Aidans final role following his promotion to Major General was as the Deputy Commander of the British Land Army.

Aidan was also the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for the County of Surrey

Aidan died after a short illness, he will be sorely missed as a former CO of the Regiment and an avid supporter of the association.
